Growing U.S. Recognition of Korean Language & Culture
Across the United States, Korean language and culture are increasingly recognized in public life through legislative resolutions, cultural observances, education, and community engagement.

Korean American Day (미주 한인의 날) — January 13
Recognizes the history and contributions of Korean Americans. The U.S. Senate formally supported Korean American Day in 2005, and California continues to recognize it. -
Hangul Day (힌글날) — October 9
California officially declared October 9, 2019, and each October 9 thereafter as Hangul Day, recognizing the Korean alphabet and the importance of Korean language and culture. -
Taekwondo Day (태권도의 날) — September 4
California has formally recognized Taekwondo Day, highlighting the Korean martial art’s contributions to education, discipline, health, and cross-cultural understanding. -
Kimchi Day (김치의 날) — November 22
California has recognized Kimchi Day as a celebration of Korean food heritage and multicultural exchange. -
Hanbok Day (한복의 날) — October 21
California proclaimed October 21, 2023, and the same date each year thereafter as Hanbok Day, inviting the broader public to share in Korean cultural heritage.
These recognitions reflect a broader reality: Korean language and culture are increasingly part of American public life—and education should keep pace.
